Indications/Uses
Serious gm -ve bacterial infections (eg, septicemia), bone & joint infections, female pelvic infections, intra-abdominal infections, gm -ve pneumonia, skin & soft tissue infections, burn wound infections, complicated UTI caused by susceptible organisms; meningitis in childn & adults; uncomplicated gonorrhea; later stages of Lyme disease.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/IV Adult & adolescent 1-2 g once daily, may be increased up to 4 g daily in severe infections. Ped 25-37.5 mg/kg daily. IV Meningitis 50 mg/kg every 12 hr w/ or w/o loading dose of 75 mg/kg, or 80 mg/kg every 12 hr for 3 doses, then every 24 hr. Skin & soft tissue infections 50-75 mg/kg once daily. Childn Max daily dose: Meningitis 4 g, other infections 2 g.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins & penicillins.
